I look at how it behaves, where risk sits, and what still carries value. AI drafts an overview from the codebase; I walk through it before anything moves.

Characterization tests capture how the product works today, including the awkward edges. When something drifts during change, it shows up early.

The European B2B platform, €600M/year. Rebuilt from CodeIgniter to Laravel to make it testable, taking coverage from 0 to 50% across 2,400+ tests I wrote nearly all of. Two years in, it was picked for the global rollout — the US, Australia and Japan. I led the team for five of those years.
Core systems moved to Laravel, PostgreSQL and Kubernetes. Not a day of downtime, and the team kept shipping while it happened.
Keeps a team's documentation in Atlassian and Confluence current. Not a side experiment — tooling inside a way of working that already existed.

I'm Floor Loogman — So-Ict is me, working from Bussum, in het Gooi. Twenty years on software that already carries real business value, and I still prefer careful improvement over a risky rewrite.
